 HEADLINER CLEANING!

    We always start with the headliner first because it's the highest point of the interior. This way any dirt that should fall will eventually be cleaned as we work our way down to the carpets. Headliners can be very touchy to clean. Some headliners are a felt material and are glued to a piece of cardboard. With these headliners you have to be very careful not to saturate or use harsh cleaners that could dissolve the glue and cause the headliner to sag or fall. So the proper way to clean these headliners are to have two terry cloth towels and your cleaner. Always try cleaning a small inconspicuous area to test for color fastness. If the cleaner removes or changes the color try a milder cleaner. To clean, you take one terry cloth towel and spray the cleaner on it. Do not spray cleaner directly onto headliner because this could dissolve the glue or leave watermarks. Take the terry cloth towel with the cleaner on it and lightly rub a 2-foot by 2-foot section of your headliner in a back and forth straight motion. This will loosen dirt and pick up most of it. Then you follow directly with the dry terry cloth towel to pick up remaining dirt. Switch your terry cloth towel to a clean area often to make sure you are picking up all of the dirt. If headliner is very dirty there is probable not much you can do. Sometimes a new headliner is the only answer.

        Vinyl or leather headliners are a little more forgiving. These headliners can take a little more saturation. You can spray the cleaner directly onto the headliner and lightly scrub with a brush or a terry cloth towel. Remember to check for color fastness. When spraying directly onto headliner you must be careful not to drip any of the cleaners onto the vinyl or leather interior below it. The cleaners may stain some surfaces if left on them for extended amounts of time. After cleaning headliner follow with clean terry cloth towel to pick up excess dirt. Switch terry cloth to clean side often to make sure you are picking up all the dirt. Go over areas until clean. You now have a clean headliner.
